I was surprised not finding a proper portrait for this historic character. By proper I mean "realistic" oil painting portrait at the time of his life. So the goal here was to give somewhat a realistic (or I should say "life like") portrait while still keeping an oil painting touch.
Similar to what it could have looked like, if he was painted as a posing actor in fornt of an artist.
I've used many references including historic information that described his facial features, as well as using the death mask pictures.
It was fun to do and it was also requested to be on the cover magazine for the "Revue des deux Mondes" magazine.
